President Trump Revokes Secret Service Protection for Joe Biden’s Adult Children

President Donald Trump announced the immediate revocation of Secret Service protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, the adult children of former President Joe Biden. Trump shared the decision via a post on his Truth Social platform, giving the reasons of high cost and high number of agents and whether this was necessity or just a continuation of Biden family corruption at the expense of U.S. taxpayers.

Trump justified the move by highlighting the expense to taxpayers, calling the number of agents assigned “ridiculous.” According to his statement, Hunter Biden’s detail included as many as 18 Secret Service agents, while Ashley Biden had 13—a total of 31 agents for the two. While exact costs for their protection in 2025 remain unclear, historical data offers context. After Trump’s first term ended in 2021, extended protection for his own adult children—Donald Jr., Ivanka, Eric, and Tiffany—cost taxpayers approximately $1.7 million over six months, according to The Washington Post. Adjusted for inflation and personnel differences, the Biden children’s protection could have amounted to a similar or higher figure, depending on deployment and travel.

Federal law mandates lifelong Secret Service protection for former presidents and their spouses, but coverage for children typically ends at age 16 unless extended by an outgoing president. Both Biden and Trump authorized six-month extensions for their adult children upon leaving office—Biden for Hunter and Ashley through July 2025, and Trump for his children in 2021. Trump’s decision to cut this protection short came after a reporter questioned him about Hunter’s detail during a visit to the Kennedy Center, prompting a swift response. “Effective immediately, Hunter Biden will no longer receive Secret Service protection. Likewise, Ashley Biden… will be taken off the list,” Trump wrote.

The Secret Service confirmed compliance with the directive, stating it is coordinating with the White House to withdraw the details. Critics argue the move leaves Hunter and Ashley vulnerable amid heightened political tensions, while supporters applaud it as a cost-saving measure aligned with precedent. Posts on X reflect this divide, with some praising the decision and others decrying it as petty.
