In a shocking incident on New Year’s Day, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, killing one person and injuring seven others. The explosion, which occurred just before 9 a.m., involved a vehicle loaded with fireworks, gas canisters, and camping fuel, leading authorities to consider it a potential act of terrorism.

The vehicle, a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck, was rented through the Turo app in Colorado and was tracked by law enforcement as it made its way to Las Vegas. Surveillance footage showed the truck arriving at approximately 7:30 a.m., driving up and down Las Vegas Boulevard before pulling up to the hotel’s glass entrance doors, where it exploded shortly after.

Elon Musk’s Statement: Following the incident, Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to X to provide an update, stating, “We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion.” Musk also hinted at a possible link between this explosion and a separate, deadly vehicle attack in New Orleans that happened hours earlier on the same day, as both vehicles were rented from Turo.
